We thank the parents and students of the Amador Judo & Jujitsu Studio for their commitment to our highly unique program. Teaching your child commitment and follow through are important lessons. It is many times the difference between success and failure in life. I am often reminded of a young 8 year old that began in our program in 1976, he trained with us for 10 years and decided that the work and commitment required to obtain a Black Belt was more that he was willing to put forth. So at the age of 18 he made the decision to stop training... Through the years I have seen him and he always has the same words “I wish that I would have gotten my Black Belt”. “I wish that my parents would have made me follow through.” My reply “I wish too” . Sometimes as parents we need to make the choice for our children. It was our 32nd Birthday. The Amador Judo & Jujitsu Studio proudly turned 32 on the 6th of March, 2004. Over the past 32 years our Dojo has become so much more than just a “training hall. Our Studio has in some ways taken on a life of its own, vibrant full of rich, warm and memorable moments. We have welcomed a multitude of students onto our mat. We have watched as our dojo has been transformed into a dojo ready to celebrate a special birthday celebration, wedding celebration and even a baby shower. Our Studio has been haunted, for downtown Livermore Trick of Treat Night, we have watched numerous hours of extra practice as student diligently practiced for demonstrations, or prepared themselves for a tournament. We have come down early in the morning long before our dojo will awaken; we have felt the peace, the silence. In those early hours we have made the final preparation before a tournament or a class and then felt the excitement generated from participants and their families. It was in our dojo that our students have joined together to celebrate the beginning of a New Year. We have felt the excitement as we all joined as one to once again participate in a parade. Our students spending the easy seemingly endless days of summer together in a day camp held here at our dojo. It is indeed through our doors where we have shared some of our most quiet inner moments, where our dojo has given us strength and reassurance, similar to that received from a parent. It was onto our mat we let our first born Ashley walk. Neither I or Professor wanted to review her for her first belt, so it fell on the shoulders of someone else. Seeing the look in Ashley’s eyes and the feeling of self accomplishment she possessed that night has gone on countless nights since in each and every one of our students as they are promoted up in rank. Our dojo has been filled with the jittery nerves of students taking their examination for Black Belt. And now Prof. Rory Rebmann and I are proud to welcome into our dojo a new life, the next generation our Granddaughter Alexa Hope Firestone, born April 21, 2005. Indiana Jones day is coming soon……………..mark your calendars Saturday May 14th. Indiana Jones Day is open to all junior students aged 5 and up. We will be hosting June 12th, a Kata, tournament.
