We thank the parents and students of the Amador Judo & Jujitsu Studio for their commitment to our highly unique program. Teaching your child commitment and follow through are important lessons. It is many times the difference between success and failure in life. I am often reminded of a young 8 year old that began in our program in 1976, he trained with us for 10 years and decided that the work and commitment required to obtain a Black Belt was more that he was willing to put forth. So at the age of 18 he quit. Through the years I have seen him and he always has the same words “I wish that I would have gotten my Black Belt”. “I wish that my parents would have made me follow through.” My reply “I wish too”. Sometimes as parents we need to make the choice for our children. It was our 31st Birthday. The Amador Judo & Jujitsu Studio proudly turned 31 on the 6th of March, 2004. Memories of the past 31 years run deep. Favorites that comes to mind are watching Ryan run from mat to mat in Oakland, while he coached his students at their first judo tournament, and then later him telling me at lunch “I want to do this my whole life”. Tony Lima and Ryan countless hours practicing, playing on the mat. Ashley dancing on the mat and her with a yellow belt instructing her first student at the age of 6, Prof. Rebmann getting promoted to Professor. Tommy Olsen being pulled in a wagon during a Christmas Parade, Megan Higgins winning a triple crown in Judo, and lastly he was just a pink belt Nate Laursen competing in the AAU Kata Championships. We will hosting June 12th and 13th, a Kata, Sumo, and Freestyle tournament. We are encouraging all our students to enter. We believe that competition is a valuable learning tool. We will be pairing you up for the competition. Please note the sign up sheet on the bulletin board. The Shoshin Ryu Reunion 2004 is scheduled for August 14th and 15th in Palm Desert, California. We will be participating in the event which will include special instructional clinics on Saturday, Kata Competition on Sunday and a banquet dinner on Sunday evening. This is a fun weekend, we had a great time the last time we went. Please join us and support this event. The host hotel is Embassy Suites with a group rate of $81.00 per night. Once again the sign up sheet will be on the bullet board. And with Kata comes practice, which will begin soon. We will be offering several summer camps this summer, with one especially for Kata practice. The dates will be posted shortly. Our 2 year old class is underway. It is 5pm on Tuesday. We are still accepting students. If you would like more information regarding this special class, please let us know. T-Shirts, we are ordering T Shirts again.
